Our tutors are trained, experienced, insured and have enhanced CRB checks. All our tutors have current Outdoor and Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding Training.

Heather Brown

With a background in health, science, education Heather Brown is the lead tutor for Heartwood Education CIC.

Heather was born in Yorkshire and spent her formative years exploring the moorland landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. She qualified as a nurse in 1986, specialising in paediatrics and working in the deprived areas of Bradford, York and Leeds. Heather went on to study Biological Sciences and Ecology in Exeter, later gaining Qualified Teacher Status from Bath Spa.

Through this combination of experiences she became enthused about working with learners of all ages and has developed projects and programs of study focussed on the natural world, creativity, health and well being.

Heather is currently focussing on delivering OCNSWR Forest School Leader Training and the Hedgerow Harvest project.

Scott Roberts

With experience in North American search and rescue and a background in events and countryside management, Scott has been a key member of the Heartwood team over recent years. He has an unlimited enthusiasm for all things outdoors and a vast knowledge of  bushcraft lore.

He works with all ages from early years to adults and his sense of fun and warmth bring a smile to everyone’s face no matter what the weather.

Joseph Olubodun

After running a successful fashion design business, Joseph wanted to work for the voluntary sector within health and social care, offering his skills and knowledge to support those marginalised in and by society.

Joseph has 14 years of experience working in the field of health and social care including substance misuse. He has worked for commissioned services for substance misuse. He has developed innovative treatment plans coupled with education and skills training for service users with substance misuse problems, to lay a solid foundation for those service users to move on after treatment, enabling them to live a productive life. This has lead Joseph to write and deliver a series of courses, which he also now delivers as part of Heartwood Education's training services. All courses are tailored to the individual's or organisation’s needs. Including a implementation plan and reviewing process.

Mentoring course Level 2, Volunteering course Level 2, Introduction to Health and Social Care, Drugs and Alcohol awareness Level 1-2, confidence and assertiveness, Equality and diversity just to name a few.

Naomi Glass

Naomi Glass is an organic food grower, an environmental educator and a qualified Social and Therapeutic Horticulturalist. Naomi has spent the last eight years managing, designing and delivering bespoke alternative, environmental and community education projects for beneficiaries from all age groups and with a wide range of needs, both within urban and rural settings.

She has worked in partnership with a range of bodies, including city farms and community gardens, Children's Centres, schools, workers cooperatives, housing associations, not for profit organisations and NHS Trusts.

Julian Plested

Julian has worked in education with all age groups, from pre-school, schools, colleges, universities and community learning, both as a teacher and organizer, in Britain and overseas.

As a director of a partnership of schools in South Somerset, Julian worked with Heather Brown of Heartwood Education to introduce Forest School into the curriculum at both primary and secondary level.

Julian has also been a Children's Centre manager in Somerset. In this capacity he worked with Heartwood Education and a local secondary school on an innovative cross-phase programme called Teens and Tots and Toys from the Wood. This enabled teenagers to gain greenwood working skills which they used to make wooden toys for their younger friends.

Julian also has in interest in languages and is a speaker of French, Spanish, Russian and Indonesian.
